The NWS has come out with a new warning product. Personally I think it's a great idea. They got to implement/test it out last week in Minnesota. They call it the Extreme Cold Warning. Basically, they are testing a new warning for when it is really cold out (way sub zero temps) and no wind is present. They want to make sure that people know that when its -20 to -40 below out and there isn't any wind present, that it is still dangerous to go outside in those temperatures.
The stipulation for an Extreme Cold Warning are as follows:
1) An AIR TEMPERATURE at or below -30 degrees F.
2) A wind speed of less than 5mph.
Now, this is only in the testing stages. The National Weather Service has put out a survey for people that have seen the Extreme Cold Warning or that would like to comment on it.
Here is their website for the survey and information on the new warning:

Personally I think the warning is a good idea because the public can never be to informed about dangerous conditions. What do you think?
On a lighter note, the temperatures will be warming up this week and the skies will be a bit brighter. Not just for the Deep Frozen Midwest but for the whole nation! Happy and Warm Day!
